Mel B's Husband To Sue Over Abuse Allegations
Melanie Brown's husband Stephen Belafonte has vowed to take legal action over reports suggesting the pop star has become a victim of domestic violence.
The status of the former Spice Girl's marriage to film producer Belafonte hit headlines last week, after she was admitted to a UK hospital with a mystery illness and then appeared on British talent show The X Factor over the weekend without her wedding ring and sporting what appeared to be scratches and bruises on her skin.
Brown has yet to comment on the fevered speculation, but Belafonte has now spoken out to clear up the rumours, insisting he is unaware of any abuse allegations.
Speaking to Britain's Daily Mail, he said, "Who accused me of it (beating his wife)? Did she accuse me of it? The police? The hospital? Who accused me of it? No one has accused me of anything."
He then claimed not to have seen any of the UK tabloid stories in recent days, alleging Brown had walked out on her husband of seven years, and threatened to sue over the reports.
Asked if he had ever raised a hand to his wife, he fired back, "You'll see all the legal letters going out tomorrow. Everybody's been contacted by Mel's representative, all the papers, that said: 'I did not hit her, this isn't going on, that's not going on.'"
His comments emerge two days after he addressed rumours suggesting his marriage was on the rocks, taking to Twitter to write, "I don't usually respond to Twitter msgs (messages) but I will respond to comments of (my marriage in trouble) which I think are quite disgusting (and) untrue!... Mel was very ill a bunch of doctors helped her get better if fans can't just relax B4 (before) being negative they r (are) not real fans... (sic)".
The couple has a three-year-old daughter together, while Brown has two girls from previous romances and Belafonte also has a child from a prior relationship.
