Mark Hamill quits Facebook

15 Jan 2020

Mark Hamill has deleted his Facebook profile and blasted company founder Mark Zuckerberg after it was announced political advertisements will not be fact checked before going live.

The Star Wars actor has called out Zuckerberg on Twitter, accusing him of being more concerned with profit than facts, and noting he will "sleep better" knowing he is no longer a part of the site.

Hamill linked his comments to a recent New York Times article on Facebook's inclusion of political ads that have not been properly verified.
Rob Leathern, Facebook's director of product management, defended the decision in a statement, noting, "Ultimately, we don't think decisions about political ads should be made by private companies."
