Mariah Carey, Lady Gaga and Karl Lagerfeld have the poshest pets in Hollywood
Some celebrity divas are so precious about being treated like royalty they throw tantrums whenever their crazy demands aren’t met. As if that’s not enough, veteran mood-swinger Mariah Carey, all-round attention-seeker Lady Gaga and legendarily loudmouthed Karl Lagerfeld are proof some superstars hold as elevated opinions of their pets as they do of themselves.
Mariah’s Pooches fly by Private Jet
Temperamental Mariah is splashing out the considerable sum of £115,000 (Dhs710,000) to send her dogs on a luxury holiday to the UK. The 44-year-old warbler is set to spend £15,000 (Dhs92,000) on a lavish stay at a luxury dog hotel, cutely titled The Paws Seasons, in Bristol, South-West England, for all eight of her cosseted canines.
What’s more, she’s forking out a further £100,000 (Dhs617,000) on a private jet to transport her pampered pooches across the Pond. Mariah’s dogs, imaginatively named The Good Reverend Pow Jackson, Mutley P Gore Jackson The Third, Jill E Beans, Pipitty Jackson, Cha Cha, Jackie Lambchops, Squeak E Beans and JJ (no relation to Ahlan!’s News Editor), will be lavished with all manner of luxuries including chef-cooked meals and plush hotel beds fit for humans.
Steak and spa Treatments for Animals?!
“[The dogs] will be washed, groomed, taken on day trips, sleep in their own hotel beds and the chef will cook them personalised meals, according to a menu plan Mariah’s sending over,” an insider revealed. The dedicated doggy hotel usually charges about £60 a day, but was more than happy to cater to the Carey pooches’ expensive tastes. The Paw Seasons told Heat magazine: “Most of our guests arrive with a good supply of their usual food, but if clients want us to order in a couple of juicy organic steaks, we’ll organise it.”
Mariah’s extravagant spending is unlikely to come as a surprise to her pampered pets, as it recently emerged the singer – who has three-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe with hubby Nick Cannon – blows about £28,000 (Dhs172,000) a year on her dogs’ grooming.
She’s also been known to pay for special beauty and spa treatments so they always look their best, but since she’s worth an estimated $510 million (Dhs1.87bn) herself, she can afford it.
Travel Ban for Gaga Dog
Lady Gaga’s also known for splashing out on her four-legged friends, but unlike Mariah, she’s been having trouble securing privileges for one particular pet after her French bulldog was banned from entering Japan.
“The pop singer had applied for her dog Asia to travel with her to the country for the Far East leg of her ArtRave: The Artpop Ball tour later this month, but was dismayed to learn her beloved mutt will have to stay in America. She revealed on Twitter: “They won’t let Asia into Asia. Some quarantine rules.
“I don’t know what I’m going to do without my baby girl in Tokyo. I had so many plans!” The GUY singer is set to play two nights at the Chiba Marine Stadium in Tokyo on 13 and 14 August before heading to South Korea’s capital, Seoul, two days later to perform at the city’s impressive Jamsil Olympic Stadium.
Gaga recently admitted she shares a very “special bond” with her mollycoddled mutt and claims she can even communicate with the animal. Speaking to fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld in the September issue of Harper’s Bazaar magazine, she stated: “Asia talks a lot with her big, beautiful eyes.
“Her ears are especially large for a Frenchie, and I can tell she’s comfy at home with Mommy because her ears are down. Asia also loves belly rubs, from everyone, and she lies on her back all the time to let me know! She’s my inspiration for many things and she’s really shown me the importance of living in the moment.” Judging from those gushing words, maybe some time apart will be good for Lady Gaga to help her connect with humans for a change.
Fashion’s Favourite Feline
Karl Lagerfeld’s cat is perhaps the most lavishly spoiled and eccentric of all the pets in the showbiz world. What sets Choupette Lagerfeld apart from the rest of the animal kingdom is the fact that she’s become a celebrity in her own right.
As head of design and creative director of Chanel, Karl’s one heck of a diva himself, but Choupette, a Christmas gift to her owner in 2011, is even more demanding than he is. The fashion-forward feline has two personal maids, Françoise and Marjorie, who care for her around the clock, as well as a personal driver and her own Tweeter who shares her philosophy with almost 40,000 followers.
Such nuggets of wisdom include: “Is there such thing as too much #beauty rest? If so, consider my good looks coma status! #catnap,” and “Always remember to stop and smell the roses (then roll around in them so the maids have to clean up the mess). #Spoiled.”
Numerous fashion magazines have conducted interviews with Choupette via Karl, in which she’s been portrayed as being “a fierce, high-maintenance, spoiled madam”, with a penchant for Apple iPads, plus designer shopping bags and lashings of lace.
Not only has she influenced the Chanel Spring 2012 Couture collection, she’s also said to be penning her very own book and is slated to bring out a capsule make-up collection by Shu Uemura later this year.
Super-chic Choupette must be fe-line pretty pleased with herself.
