The first thing that hits you about Claw once you get beyond the door of its relatively quiet and civilised location, is the noise. It’s packed to the rafters with diners and full of bustling chatter that manages to retain a happy medium with the background music of hip and happening radio-friendly tunes and it’s probably best described as Coyote Ugly sans the hot girls dancing on the bar (sorry boys).
It’s fun and lively, and Dubai’s very own Man vs Food challenge takes place here in the form of ‘The Beast’; a 5lb burger with all the trimmings surrounded by a gargantuan portion of chilli cheese fries that has to be finished in 45 minutes if you’re to be immortalised on the restaurant’s wall of fame.
On to real food, we recommend that you go for the buffalo shrimp, which is both saucy and spicy and, in my opinion, beats bog-standard chicken wings hands down. The menu reads like a list of comfort foods, and if you love a ‘surf and turf’ experience, this is where you’ll be in heaven with its list of everything from seafood platters to steaks and everything in between. Try the shrimp Po Boy sandwich, which is stuffed with a filling of crispy prawns, avocado and salad. But let’s be honest, this cool and hip hangout joint is where the good times roll, so make the most of the two for one offer on margaritas and larger-than-life beverages that are intended to be shared. Suddenly, we love Mondays!
