Make The Most Of The Dubai Fitness Challenge With The Help Of Technology

The Dubai Fitness Challenge kicks off in a matter of days, so we have quizzed two Dubai fitness experts and trainers on their top tips for a super-fit Dubai 30x30.

Fitness expert and marathon runner Manal Rostom told us, "The Dubai Fitness Challenge is a great initiative to help you start a healthy lifestyle that you can stick to in the long term, beyond the 30 days. And what’s great is you won’t be alone in this journey. The whole city will be taking part giving you the ultimate motivation to get started. Trying anything for the first time will always be scary at the beginning. The aim is to start somewhere and believe that you'll get better day by day."

"My advice for new comers is to set a goal. Aim to run your first 5k or lose 5 kilos in a month," she went on to say. "Find something you’re passionate about doing, and go for it. Make sure to surround yourself with likeminded people who will encourage you to reach that finish line. I also find that my Apple Watch offers the right support I need to keep me on track and motivated to be active."

While, certified personal trainer, Mike Oyac, specialised in sport and cardio conditioning, adds, “I believe that fitness should be available to everyone and that sessions need to be fun, varied, and at the right intensity. The Dubai Fitness Challenge offers a month long schedule of classes suitable for beginners to advanced athletes, kids to adults, and the best thing about it, it’s a community effort. Regardless of your level, the one thing I would advise is to always monitor your heart rate. the whole point of exercise is not just to clock more kilometers. It’s supposed to get you to be fitter. One of the ways to do that, is by measuring your heart rate recovery time.”

Here are the top 4 tips to make use of your Apple Watch and close your 30x30 challenge each day:

1. Track your workouts

Make use of the free fitness classes and exciting events to stay active this month. Apple Watch will help you track a wide variety of the workouts including outdoor running, HIIT training, swimming. By using custom motion and heart rate algorithms is will accurately measure active and total calorie burn. It will even automatically detect when you’ve started and completed a work out so you never have to lose track.

2. Monitor your Heart Rate

To gain the most from your training it is crucial that you monitor your heart rate on a regular basis. With watchOS 5, you will be able to see your average and highest heart rate reading, and the recovery rate. A lower resting heart rate and a shorter recovery time can give you some insight into your fitness level and how it’s changing over time.

3. Go the extra mile with the Nike Training Club app

Nike Run Club and Nike Training Club on Apple Watch will help you build the endurance and strength to take your fitness to the next level.
