Celeb-favourite magician Dynamo is jetting into Dubai for the first time this week to perform at the glamorous Ahlan! Masquerade Ball. And he might be able to walk on water, as he proved when he paced across the River Thames in 2011, but he faces a constant battle against an illness which makes it agonizingly painful to digest food.

Real name Steven Frayne, 30, the English star was first diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease when he was 13. He even had surgery to remove half his stomach, and had to learn to walk again. He still weights only eight stone and controls the condition through his diet, though says he is always in pain. He said: “My Crohn’s does get me down at times and can be very uncomfortable, but I try my hardest not to let it get in the way.”

However, he’s set to deliver a spectacular show at the Ahlan! Ball at Atlantis, the Palm, expect the kind of action that has previously had him wowing A-listers Gwyneth Paltrow, Eva Longoria, Sir Paul McCartney and Prince Charles.

Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher flew him to Hollywood to perform for them and he did a special gig for Kim Kardashian as well as levitating Lindsay Lohan into the air at the Formula 1 racing in Singapore.

But his favourite celeb fan is actor Will Smith. He said: “He’s such an inspirational man, for him to praise my magic like he did was incredible!”

Dynamo, who got into magic aged nine in his native Bradford, hasn’t ruled out staging a mega-illusion in the UAE, or even a hosting a string of shows here. He said: “It’s my first time visiting Dubai. I’m very excited, but will only be here for a couple of days, but will hopefully be back out soon for longer, so who knows what could happen in the future. It would be cool to have a Vegas residency, but maybe we should think about a Dubai residency first, that could be amazing!”
