LUNCH REVIEW: Seagrill Bistro, Fairmont The Palm

What’s better than a relaxing day in a pool at a five-star hotel? Not much, TBH. And that’s exactly what we decide to do when we soak up the sun at the picturesque pool of Dubai’s Fairmont The Palm.

And, of course, a day of lounging poolside requires food. Fortunately for us, Seagrill Bistro is located just metres away from the hotel’s adult swimming pool. In fact, it’s so close and convenient, we’re able to leave our towels and belongings on our loungers so we can pick up where we left off once lunch is over (want to steal our lounger? We dare you).

Thanks to its floor-to-ceiling windows, Seagrill Bistro is bright and airy, making it the perfect extension of a pool day. Because nobody wants a dark and moody lunch during a day of fun in the sun.

For appetisers, we go for the soft egg and asparagus, which is a treat. The dish consists of fried poached egg, steamed asparagus, lemon butter and large chunks of parmesan cheese. It’s light, fresh and perfectly combines the flavours, making it a healthy summery starter. Our guest, on the other hand, tries the salmon tartare, which is served with olive oil, lemon, fresh horseradish and chives on a crispy brown slice of toast

Sticking with the salmon theme, our guest opts for the grilled salmon as a main meal, which is served with stuffed baby peppers and celeriac purée. The salmon looks fresh and beautifully garnished, and considering it’s consumed in record-speed, we can only assume it’s a winner.

The real winner of the day, however, is our mushroom fusilli pasta. While we don’t often go for vegetarian dishes, the combination of mixed mushrooms, goat’s cheese, arugula, and wait for it – truffle oil – sounds like a dream. And yes, it also tastes like a dream. The portion is also quite generous, which means we keep going, and going, and going. Before we know it, we’ve consumed the entire thing, and we have to return to our poolside lounger slightly larger than before. Truth be told, it was totally worth it. In fact, we think we may have found our fave new pasta dish.
