Lunch Date with Priti Malik
Why do you love Market Café?
You can’t beat Market Café for lunch. They have such a wide range of food, from Italian and grills to Arabic and Indian. Plus, I'm not up for going to a super fancy place that frequently, so Market Café has that perfect level of comfort for my taste. Great food and relaxed surroundings, you can’t beat it.
What do you order when you eat there?
My favourite station has to be the Italian one. The Caesar salad is always crisp and fresh, while the pasta is just mouthwatering. You can't beat their ravioli with creamy tomato sauce and I also absolutely love their vegetable biryani. Indian and Italian is a strange mixture, I know, but it works for me. If there's room for dessert, I have to have the strawberry cheesecake. It’s creamy, indulgent and so delicious.
What is your desert island dish?
Does cheese count as a dish? I just can’t get enough of it, anytime, anywhere.
What’s your guilty food pleasure?
These aren’t really gourmet choices. At least one of them isn’t anyway, but I just love cheese and soda. Not together, of course, that would be weird.
Do you have any special food memories?
Growing up, my sister and I used to kick mum and dad out of the kitchen and just take over for a day. We loved picking a cuisine and just trying to create something ourselves. These dishes weren’t always a success but we both learnt the basics and developed a love of food and cooking.
Who is your food inspiration?
My sister, for sure. She’s always had a huge interest in cooking and comes up with the coolest dishes for all of us to try.
What is the most unusual thing you have eaten?
I’m not too adventurous when it comes to food but I did try duck once. Let’s just say I’ve never had it again after that. It just wasn’t my thing.
In your opinion, what makes a perfect dining out experience?
The staff must be warm and friendly, the food has to be yummy, and the company, of course, makes it all worthwhile. These things combined make the perfect lunch or dinner for me.
What do you like to cook at home?
I love making Italian food. I make a killer Alfredo sauce from scratch and, if you're playing along, yes, cheese is the secret ingredient. I’m a little bit obsessed with it.
Who taught you how to cook?
It was a combination of The Food Network and watching my parents.
What are your kitchen cupboard must-haves?
I always need garlic, black pepper and a bit of chilli. These are the three ingredients that liven up any dish, as far as I’m concerned. I love a bit of flavour.
What is your foodie dream?
Did you say pizza, Chinese food, ravioli, and ice cream all in one day? Oh yeah. Not healthy, I know, but so delicious, and we are talking about a dream.
