- I won the British Academy of Film and Television Arts award for Outstanding Debut, along with Babak Anvari, Emily Leo and Oliver Roskill, for our film Under the Shadow. We were also honoured to receive the BAFTA nomination for Outstanding British Film.
I was proud to watch as Under the Shadow was played in cinemas across the United Kingdom, United States and the United Arab Emirates, and opened the midnight section of the Sundance Film Festival 2016. The movie is a psychological horror, which tells the story of a mother and daughter struggling to cope with the terrors of a post-revolution, war-torn Tehran of the 1980s, when a mysterious evil begins to haunt their home.
Since making Under the Shadow, we’ve have completed two further films, the first of which, iBoy, stars Bill Milner and Maisie Williams, and was the UK’s first Netflix Original film. We’ve just wrapped a film called An Evening with Beverly Luff Linn, starring Aubrey Plaza, Emile Hirsch, Jemaine Clement and Craig Robinson, which will be released in 2018.
I’m a movie producer, which means looking for stories that have the power to impact and connect with audiences of all generations. Stories should surprise, transform, provoke, question, educate and above all, entertain.
