It was an honour to be invited to present an award for Dubai 92’s inaugural More Awards, celebrating local heroes. The black-tie event was held in the The Westin Mina Seyahi ballroom and I wore my new Ted Baker evening dress. The worthy winners were chosen from over 1,000 nominees by a panel of judges, and the evening was emotional as we all listened to their moving stories – there were quite a few tears!
I was pleased to present the ‘Outstanding Bravery Award’ to Fiona Sennett, for her tireless charity work following the sudden death of her husband. So many people were recognised for dedicating their life to others; it was both humbling and inspiring. Having attended lots of glamorous award ceremonies, including The Brits, it was refreshing to be part of something so worthwhile.
My good friend Gary Rhodes was under the impression that he too was presenting an award, but the tables were dramatically turned when he was presented with the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’. I was so happy for Gary; his award is well deserved as he has enjoyed a long and successful career and is recognised as being one of the first British celebrity chefs.
