The well-loved story will be roaring across cinemas in the GCC
Disney is coming back yet again to take us back to our childhood with the release of the live action version of beloved and highly acclaimed animated 1994 classic The Lion King this month. Directed by Jon Favreau, The Lion King takes us to the African savanna where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub’s arrival. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba’s exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his.
The original animated version is considered an animated masterpiece and won Academy Awards for the original song “Can you feel the love tonight?” (Elton John and Tim Rice) and original score (Hans Zimmer). Hans Zimmer also scored the 2019 adventure.
Director Jon Favreau, who also directed the 2016 live adaptation of The Jungle Book ,which won an Oscar for best visual effects, says he wants to utilise all the latest technology to tell the story of the well-loved classics in a contemporary and immersive way.
The live action film stars Donald Grover as the voice of Simba and Queen B Beyoncé as the voice of Nala. The movie sounds super promising and we can’t wait to go back to the cinema to witness our favourite animated characters come to life in a whole new way.
The movie will screen in cinemas in the UAE, Lebanon, Jordan, Kuwait, Bahrain and KSA on the 18th of July and in Egypt on 17th July.
