Lewis Hamilton is in Australia for the F1 Grand Prix hot on the heels of the Bahrain race. While he didn’t make headlines in the Middle East he is certainly whipping up a media storm down under.
Nicole Sherzinger’s boyfriend and formula one race car driver set an all time Australian record on Friday in the qualifying rounds. At 1 minute and 26.801 seconds, Hamilton was all smiles that was until he hit the streets of Perth, Australia that night.
Hamilton, 25, was caught by Australian police driving recklessly. His car was impounded and he is now facing charges of improper use of a vehicle. Australian newspaper The Herald Sun reported that he was caught doing a "burnout with smoking tyres and a fishtail."
Scott Woodford, a Perth Policeman told the newspaper, "It would have been fair to say he was fairly disappointed."
Hamilton who is now facing backlash from the public has branded his driving as a “silly mistake.” In an official statement he said “this evening, I was driving in an over-exuberant manner and, as a result, was stopped by the police. What I did was silly, and I want to apologise for it." Boys and their toys!
