Lena Dunham blasted Kanye West’s new Famous music video saying it’s “one of the more disturbing artistic efforts in recent memory.”
The video shows famous people like George W Bush, Anna Wintour, Donald Trump, Rihanna, Chris Brown, Taylor Swift, Kim Kardashian, Ray J, Amber Rose, Caitlyn Jenner and Bill Cosby, sleeping next to each other with their modesty on show.
The 30-year-old actress took to Facebook and claimed the video makes her feel “unsafe” and “worried” about the impression it gives to teenage girls. She also pointed out that the timing of the video’s release is offensive, regarding Bill Cosby’s legal battles. She also explained she feels extremely uncomfortable to see women she admires, like Taylor Swift or Rihanna, being reduced as wax figures like this.
Lena’s an art lover but she argued by saying: “If it’s been banned, I’ll probably love it. Because I know that art’s job is to make us think in ways that aren’t always tidy or comfortable. But this feels different.”
The Girls star concluded by telling Kanye to seek inspiration elsewhere. She wrote: “Make a statement on fame and privacy and the Illuminati or whatever is on your mind! But I can’t watch it, don’t want to watch it, if it feels informed and inspired by the aspects of our culture that make women feel unsafe even in their own beds, in their own bodies.”
