Learn to Act at DUCTAC!

Have you ever harboured dreams of performing onstage? It may be too late to bag an Oscar, but you can still take those first steps into the limelight with the new acting classes in Dubai!

Acting is a great way to boost your communication skills, self-confidence and public speaking skills – as well as make new friends – and now DUCTAC has launched a series of courses aimed at adults who are new to the theatre. The centre, at Mall of the Emirates, offers a number of drama and performance classes, from acting to musical theatre, comedy to courses accredited by the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA).

Starting tonight, Introduction to Acting for Adults has been designed for drama enthusiasts of all levels of experience, enabling participants to practise auditioning techniques if they wish. Held over six weeks, the two-hour sessions will cover the basics of performance for the stage through fun and dynamic exercises. The course will culminate in a showcase at DUCTAC in which all members of the group present a variety of solo and group scenes on stage.

Weekly topics will include improvisation, voice and movement; monologues and character study; and setting the scene.

Tutor Sol Abiad has a master’s degree in Performance from the UK’s Bristol University, teaches theatre at Paris-Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi and has spent 20 years as practising performance and drama director and trainer in France, Canada and the UAE.  Participants should bring a notebook and wear comfy clothes that will enable them to move freely; they should also avoid wearing dangling jewellery...
