Ladies, It's Time to Get Checked for Breast Cancer
Doctors in the UAE have called for a national breast cancer screening programme to improve diagnosis and survival rates in the region. Experts are using Breast Cancer Awareness month to highlight the need for an updated programme, which is accessible to everyone across the UAE. “If you have a mature screening programme, you’re more likely to detect the disease early and have a better prognosis,” Dr Richard Reyes, a consultant breast and general surgeon at American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery Hospital told The National. Screening and early diagnosis is a particular problem for expats in the region, particularly those without adequate health insurance. The daily continued, "Emiratis have access to free screenings at government facilities. But expatriates who do not have insurance are left in the lurch. A mammogram can cost up to Dhs800." Time to check your insurance, ladies.
