With her creations donned by celebrities, this Saudi Arabian jewellery designer has been dubbed by the media as the ‘Jewel of Arabia’ – just another title to add to the list of 2012 accolades.
If there’s room, can you tell us what awards you won last year?
I won the title Best Arab Jewellery Designer for the third consecutive year in the Middle East Watches and Jewellery Awards and Harper’s Bazaar crowned me as Dubai’s Best Dressed Lady. Plus, in the 2012 Arab Woman Awards, I won the trophy for Most Stylish Arab Woman.
You’ve ‘dressed’ some well-known names. How does it feel to have your work endorsed by celebrities?
Dressing the stars, such as Karolina Kurkova and Nicole Saba, is very important in marketing, especially considering that they don’t accept wearing just anything.
Tell us about your latest collection.
It’s entitled The Glamorous Scent and is a set of exclusive pieces that combine diamonds and coloured stones with Arabic oud wood.
What is your favourite piece of jewellery?
A necklace I designed in December 2012. It’s a rare 198-carat Mughal emerald carved in beautiful floral designs. I love the sentimental value it has; it’s a very old stone.
You work with a number of charities...
Yes. In 2012 I worked with amfAR, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, Oxfam and Dubai Cares. I donate exclusive jewellery pieces to charity foundations and it gives me great joy to raise funds through my art.
