Kevin Spacey Spotted in UAE
One of the more notable absences from the SAG Awards was actor Kevin Spacey - particularly as he'd actually won the Best Actor in a Drama Series award for his performance in hit US TV series House Of Cards. So what was so important that it kept him away from a gong-getting session in LA? Turns out it's because he's been right here in the UAE for the past couple of weeks.
While his peers were pulling themselves into tuxedos and gowns, Spacey was settling down into his seat at the Sharjah Institute for Theatrical Arts for a performance of Dhow Under the Sun by Iraqi playwright Hassan Abdulrazzak. It was the culmination of a two-week workshop by the Home Grown theatre workshop - a partnership between the Kevin Spacey Foundation and Middle East Theatre Academy (Meta) in Sharjah - and the multi-national cast had been personally mentored by the award-winning actor/director.
In a speech he gave before the performance, Spacey claimed that the experience had put him in touch with his theatrical roots. “Tonight is the kind of night I grew up with. This is what I experienced when I was very young. In my theatre class, I was a part of many programmes where I was brought together with other emerging artists to put on plays in workshops with professional directors and working actors."
Spacey was then spotted in at the Caramel restaurant in Dubai on a quick stopover before returning to the US, where presumably he has an award-shaped parcel waiting for him.
