John Carney, who directed Keira Knightley in the 2013 film Begin Again, has admitted he was “disenchanted” with the actress. “Keira has an entourage that follow her everywhere so it’s very hard to get any real work done,” he revealed in an interview with British newspaper The Independent last week.
“Keira’s thing is to hide who you are and I don’t think you can be an actor and do that. I like to work with proper film actors as opposed to movie stars,” he continued, adding, “I don’t want to rubbish Keira, but you know it’s hard being a film actor and it requires a certain level of honesty and self-analysis that I don’t think she’s ready for yet, and I certainly don’t think she was ready for on that film.”
Keira’s credentials include modelling for Chanel, but that didn’t impress Carney, who concluded: “I'll never make a film with supermodels again.” However, he did have something positive to say, though stingingly it wasn’t about Keira. He described her co-star Adam Levine as “a joy to work with”. Ouch!
