The furore around Kanye West’s controversial video for his song Famous had finally died down, but the rapper reignited the flame with an art exhibition showcasing life-sized replicas of the celebrities featured in the video.
The showcase in LA appeared to have been kept under tight wraps until the last minute, with fans only made aware of it when Kanye’s wife Kim Kardashian announced on Twitter that she was on her way to the event.
The high-end exhibition was based on Kanye’s contentious music video, which was released in June, featuring Kim and Kanye along with celebrity lookalikes of Taylor Swift, Donald Trump, Caitlyn Jenner, Bill Cosby, Kim’s ex Ray J, Rihanna, and Anna Wintour, sprawled across a bed, naked and in compromising positions. Swift immediately expressed her fury at her likeness being used in the video, noting that she had not granted Kanye permission of any kind.
The Shake It Off’s singer’s rocky relationship with 39-year-old Kanye has been well documented, but hit an all-time low after Famous hit the airwaves, in which he raps about Taylor and refers to her in a derogatory way. West seemed to have little regard for Swift’s disgust at the song and accompanying music video, however, tauntingly tweeting: “Can somebody sue me already? I’ll wait.”
It looks like T’Town might be siding with chart-topper Taylor, if the turnout for Kanye’s exhibition is anything to go by, with Kim, model sister Kendall Jenner and X-Men: Apocalypse actress Olivia Munn the only famous faces in attendance. Even the rapper himself failed to make an appearance, instead watching proceedings via a video link, as he was in New York City scheduled to perform as part of his Saint Pablo tour.
While Kim was predictably snap-happy at the showcase, constantly taking pictures of the life-sized bed and its occupants – particularly her own scantily clad replica – to share with her followers, Munn seemed more confused than impressed by what she was seeing. Perhaps she had realised that she’d just landed herself on the black list of Taylor’s girl squad?
So, has Hollywood finally grown weary of Kanye’s stunts?
