Balenciaga’s ‘bench-gate’
From Anna Wintour to Salma Hayek - it was standing room only for the F’rowers at Paris fashion week - yikes!
Balenciaga’s ‘bench-gate’ From Anna Wintour to Salma Hayek - it was standing room only for the F’rowers at Paris fashion week - yikes!

It was the most hotly anticipated show of the week. Hip-hop megastar Kanye West was to make his fashion designer debut at Paris Fashion Week - yes, PARIS fashion week - and anyone who was anyone was going to be there. But whilst the VIPs and fashion editors from all over the globe were  excitedly discussing what Kanye’s first collection would be like pre-show, post show, the embarrassed silence from all in attendance was the biggest talking point of all.

One esteemed fashion editor compared the show to having an MRI scan, such was the extreme lighting in the venue, while another tweeted she was ‘still laughing at the Kanye show - #MESS’ Ouch! With others comparing the collection - all slashed bondage dresses, zipped up leather minis, cleavage flashing tops, fur trimmed jackets and metallic leggings - to clothes that a badly dressed, ahem, lady of the night might wear, the general consensus from fashion’s elite was that Mr.West should stick to rapping, not ready-to-wear. But it wasn’t all bad. At least Kanye’s front row got to sit down and watch his show - unlike the guests at Balenciaga, who were forced to stand -including Anna Wintour and Salma Hayek - after the benches collapsed. Quel  fashion horreur!
