Justin Banned From Rapping
He may have millions of Beliebers willing to do anything for him but there are still some people who won’t give Justin Bieber special treatment. Legendary producer DJ Premier banned JB from taking part in a freestyle rap performance at the Black Entertainment Television (BET) Hip-Hop Awards after finding out that the teen pop star was planning to use a rhyme written by Ludacris.
The Awards ceremony is known for its pre-recorded musical segments, called cyphers, which this year featured rappers Eminem, Busta Rhymes, Ludacris and B.o.B., as well as Chris Brown. But Premier reveals that there was one eager participant he was forced to reject at the show (which happened in Atlanta, Georgia on 1 October) - because he wasn't going to write his own lyrics.
The producer spilled, "Justin Bieber even asked if he could do the cypher. Everybody was worried that it might mess up the integrity of BET but I was like, 'As long as he got a [good] rhyme, let him spit.'
"But, then we heard, 'He wants Luda to write his rhyme.' I was like, 'Oh, no, no, no, no, no.' If you ain't writing your own rhyme, you can't do it. So, Justin, you gotta take a backseat on that one. Write your own rhymes, honey. You gotta call him honey on that one."
We don’t think Justin will mind Premier’s rejection too much though, as he’s had a chance to rap before. He previously adopted the rap moniker Shawty Mane and showed off his rhyming talent on Chris Brown's first rap mix tape, Boy in Detention, earlier this year. As for the BET Hip-Hop Awards – there’s always next year to brush up on those lyric-writing skills!
