After being caught “accidentally” smuggling their pets, Yorkshire terriers Pistol and Boo, into Australia, Johnny Depp and wife Amber Heard found themselves in hot water Down Under.
Amber was handed a one-month good behaviour bond and fined $1,000 (Dhs3,673) after she pleaded guilty to falsifying border protection documents, but charges of illegal importation were dropped over what was described as “a tired, terrible mistake”.
The pair certainly looked exhausted – Johnny failed to keep his eyes open in court! Journalists reporting from the court tweeted about him nodding off, with one writing: “Pretty certain Amber Heard just had to elbow Johnny Depp to wake him up.”
Later the pair made a bizarre video apology in which Johnny still looked exhausted, or perhaps just bored, echoing Amber’s sentiments as she explained that “Australia is a wonderful island” (technically, yes, but it’s probably best known as being the bulk of a continent).
Johnny managed to contribute: “Australians are both warm and direct. When you disrespect Australian law, they will tell you firmly. Declare everything when you come to Australia.” Like all members of the law-abiding public, I’ve never accidentally smuggled animals abroad, so I’m assuming this is a celebrity service announcement.
