Johnny Depp Blasts Robert Pattinson
Considering he’s an actor who’s been moonlighting as a musician for years, Johnny Depp’s latest outburst makes him sound a tad hypocritical. The Into the Woods actor has taken subtle shots at British heartthrob Robert Pattinson and his attempts to launch a career as an indie singer.
Depp, 51, didn’t name the 28-year-old directly, but made it pretty clear he was offended by the growing trend of Hollywood stars-turned-singers. Speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald, he said: “That whole idea for me is a sickening thing, it’s always just made me sick.
“The kind of luxury now is, anybody with a certain amount of success, if you have a kind of musical being, you can go out and start a band and capitalise on your work in other areas.” Johnny went on to say that he “hates the idea” and also defended his right to play guitar while shaming everyone else. “You want the people who are listening to the music to only be interested in the music. I’ve been very lucky to play on friends’ records, and it’s still going. Music is still part of my life, but you won’t be hearing The Johnny Depp Band. That won’t ever exist.”
Well, fair play, Johnny, but all in all it sounds as though you might be feeling a bit jealous that other thespians are stealing your thunder.
