For this self-confessed lover of interior design, knocking down walls was the only way to go to achieve what is now her stunning family home. “I love decorating, and luckily my husband trusts me and lets me get on with it,” says Joanne.
Just over a year ago, the wall between the kitchen and play area for her two sons (aged seven and five), came crashing down to create a vast open-plan family space. Wooden floors were laid throughout the ground floor, the kitchen units were spray painted, furniture – including a sofa as well as a large bookcase to hide the children’s toys – was custom made and Joanne herself got the brushes out and repainted the house.
This clean, airy and light finish – assisted by the fact that the lounge has a double-height ceiling – is complemented by Joanne’s stylish taste in furniture and interior design. “I love searching for the right pieces. I bought the guest bedroom furniture about 10 years ago from France and still love it today. I am crazy about photographs, and plaster pictures of the boys, friends and family all over the walls. It’s a daily reminder of people that we miss in the UK,” says Joanne.
