The large duplex apartment for this communications professional is the perfect setting for her to create two distinctive themes.
“The downstairs of my apartment has a tribal element with African drums and rustic wood. Upstairs is more minimalist and Zen-like with some modern art pieces that really caught my eye,” says Jill. “I love the upstairs living room – it’s cosy and tranquil, plus the large window lets in lots of natural light.”
But it was the floating staircase that really sold this apartment to Jill. “It’s a striking statement feature that gives the apartment a real New York loft feel,” she says.
This combination of themes is exactly what Jill loves. “I like to mix and match to create my own particular style. I tend to buy quite a few pieces from Marina and The One, but I also love the occasional trip to Dragon Mart where I most recently bought my chandelier. Also, years ago, I had a dream find in an amazing furniture warehouse in Al Quoz, where I picked up a large, solid wood, hand-carved mirror – it’s one of my treasured pieces,” she says.
