Jessica Simpson Is Back On Top
While recent rumours in Hollywood suggest their pre-nuptial arrangement ended in a boisterous duel of words, Jessica Simpson is all smiles and certainly looks like a woman in love when she gushed about her fiancé Eric Johnson. Radiantly glowing from ear to ear she looks like the cat that got the cream, and she has. Her clothing empire has grossed her nearly $1billion (Dhs3.6bn), she’s cardioed her way into an enviable hot bod and she has found the man to mend her broken heart from her divorce to first hubby Nick Lachey in 2006. Jessica Simpson, the star, is back!
While her fashion and music career is thriving, it was Jess’ brief return to reality TV with The Price Of Beauty in late 2010 – a documentary that saw her travel the world to meet women of all shapes and sizes to look into the real meaning of beauty – that gave her the strength to overcome her own media criticisms about her yo-yoing weight and concentrate on getting her life back on track. She explains about that time, “I went through a lot with everybody saying that I’d gained all this weight and I just didn’t think it was fair so I thought it would be amazing to travel the world and see what women do to feel beautiful, to look beautiful, what their expectation of beauty is in all these countries. It was unbelievably amazing.”
The star admits the experience helped her gain inner strength and move on from the “embarrassing” stories being written about her. And with the most embarrassing aspect of her life over – her relationship to singer John Mayer who famously equated her to “sexual napalm” – she found the love of her life, American footballer, Eric.
She blushes as she reminisces how they first met, “He was out with some of my friends, and I was at home. One of my friends said, ‘You should come back to Jessica’s house.’ My friend came to the door and said, ‘This is Eric Johnson’ and I said, ‘Who?’ He said he was coming to hang out and I haven’t let him leave the house! We got engaged at the house. It’s one of those rare stories...”
Sadly for Jess, as well as her weight, her relationships are also tracked by the media with rumours of Eric being a gold-digger. Yet, determined he is no such thing she insists, “Eric’s a great guy. We’re very relaxed. It takes a lot to get us stressed out. We talk through everything.”
As such she laughs off talk that the wedding is off and while she is reluctant to give a specific date, sources say she is set for a November wedding. With her man and date sorted Jess is working hard to get into shape for the big day, and proving her determination she’s hired professionals to help her achieve her goal.
Her new body team includes LA health guru Ming Yi Wang and Gwyneth Paltrow’s personal trainer Tracy Anderson. While Ming has her on a serious diet including drinking Victoria Beckham’s fave tea Pu-er, a herbal beverage that eliminates body toxins, Tracy has devised a strict programme that entails 74-minute workouts, four times a week! To ensure Jess doesn’t bore of her exercises Tracy admits she’s included fun dance routines that will be sure to see Jess boogying down the aisle. Tracy said, “I’m not just going to kill her. I want to make a real change so she can keep up. I admire her for wanting to burn serious calories.”
Jess’ willpower has already seen her lose inches in order to fit into her dress, which she claims she’s yet to buy, “I’m still trying to figure out what to wear! I don’t know if I want the big boom or the curvy thing, but it’ll be something beautiful.” However, she adds it’ll be different to the one she wore for her first wedding in 2002 to Nick, “I want it to be different from before. I like my collar bone. I like to show off my décolletage.”
While she still hasn’t settled on the details of her dress she is adamant it won’t be from her eponymous fashion label, which is the first celeb fashion line to earn $1bn (Dhs3.6bn). Her range is so successful, that the singer-turned-actress-turned-designer has signed on to be a celebrity mentor on a new NBC fashion series Fashion Star, which is hosted by supermodel Elle Macpherson. A programme exec said, “With an almost billion-dollar lifestyle brand under her belt she is sure to be an excellent mentor to our up-and-coming designers.”
Jess said of her new successful career, “I’ve always loved fashion, and I think that this is probably any girls dream to be able to create stuff to make women feel beautiful. My work is tearing sheets out of magazines, to putting together great colours, to going fabric and vintage shopping. It’s a great project for my mum and I to do together.”
Ever the Southern girl with huge family values, Jess has enrolled younger sister Ashlee into her business, teaming up with the 26-year-old to launch a new line for girls between seven and 16. She said, “Creating a tween apparel collection was a natural extension. I’m excited to bring my sister, Ashlee, along as co-creative director of this division, because she brings a savvy rocker edge that defines today’s tweens.”
With a uber-successful career under her belt and rumoured family feuds clearly over, finding true love and remarrying is the cherry on the top for Jess who is firmly back in the game!
