Jay-Z's deposition in legal spat will be videotaped

Jay-Z has lost his battle to keep his deposition in his legal stand-off with the bosses of a perfume company completely under wraps.

Fearing a leak, the rap mogul's lawyers suggested the deposition - scheduled for today at Jay-Z's Roc Nation offices in New York - should not be videotaped, but a New York State judge has ruled the interview will be recorded.

As a compromise, Judge Andrew Borrok has determined the master tape of the recording will be destroyed and all copies watermarked, according to court documents obtained by Billboard.

The rapper has been accused of breaching a contract with bosses at Parlux, who claim he failed to promote Gold Jay Z, a men's fragrance he launched with them in 2016. Jay-Z's deposition was scheduled to take place at the end of August, but it was cancelled after his legal team learned that it would be filmed.

They have since argued their client's brand and reputation could be damaged if the legal interview was leaked, and urged the judge to veto plans to tape the deposition.

Judge Borrok has denied the request, while ruling Jay-Z's lawyers must pay for the legal fees incurred for the original, cancelled deposition in August.Parlux bosses are seeking the return of advances and royalties paid to JAY-Z and at least $18 million  in punitive damages.
