Jason Derulo, Rita Ora and More Stars Confirmed for Yasalam 2014 Beats on the Beach Line-up
A diverse line-up for the free music festival Volkswagen Beats on The Beach has been announced. US R&B hit-machine Jason Derulo will return to the UAE alongside Rita Ora, one of the hip hop world's most established performers, Juicy J, and rising star singer-songwriter Tinashe, who all bring their superstar qualities and chart smashing hits to the Abu Dhabi Corniche as part of the Yasalam 2014 celebrations.
The Corniche line-up features international as well as local talent including UAE star Ruwaida Mahrooqi, regional Arabic performers Ragheb Alama, Chada Hassoun, Sabine and Two Tone, alongside Filipino sensation Charice and Bollywood crowd-puller Hard Kaur. The extensive line-up is bolstered further by some of the best UAE-based acts, hand-picked for their talents - Juliana Down, The Boxtones, Nikotin, Kicksound and Jae Franklin.
In its sixth year, the Yasalam celebrations Live on the Corniche will take place at the West Plaza and Lagoon Beach for the first time, a shift from the East Plaza and Al Sahil Beach venue of previous years.
Thursday 20 November will see Filipino sensation Charice and rapper Juicy J take the stage. Rediscovering chart success with hits such as Katy Perry's "Dark Horse" the rapper has a history of delivering huge routines as part of the Three 6 Mafia and as a solo performer with tracks such as "Shell Checked" with Wiz Khalifa or "Low" with Nicki Minaj. Drawing on over 10 years of experience, his performance will have the Abu Dhabi audience dancing from start to finish. Also performing over the course of the evening will be regional Arabic songstress Chada Hassoun and Moroccan hip-hop Dubai-based favourite, Two Tone.
Friday night, 21 November will be headlined by the American chart-topper and multitalented singer/songwriter, Jason Derulo. Sure to excite the thousands who will visit the Corniche on the night, Derulo has established a huge global following with incredible chart success with recent top hits such as "Wiggle" and "Talk Dirty," but also older classics such as 2010's "Ridin' Solo" and 2009's "Whatcha' Say." Other Friday night performers include Bollywood star Hard Kaur and Emirati artist and local favourite Ruwaida Mahrooqi.
British singer, songwriter and actress Rita Ora burst on to the international scene in 2012 with chart-topping hits "How We Do (Party)" and "R.I.P.". The I Will Never Let You Down hitmaker will perform on Saturday, 22 November, followed by breakout young artist, Tinashe.
Dubbed the next Beyoncé by the New York Times the singer-songwriter, record producer, dancer, actress and former model will get the crowd singing along to her hit single "2 On" and tracks from her debut album "Aquarius". Adding more global flavour to the Saturday shows will be celebrated Lebanese icon, Ragheb Alama and Sabine.
Additionally on Friday, 21 November, dance fans are in for a treat with another exciting addition to the Live on the Corniche activities will be Closeup's competition to find Dubai's best urban dancers. Closeup has teamed up with Charles Makriss, Owner & choreographer of Makriss Dance Ministry and Nadja Issa, choreographer and Artistic Director of 'Art in the Air', to conduct the search for the dancers who will join the #SYNCDiN Crew. Auditions will be held in universities and public parks across UAE in the run up to the Live on the Corniche activities. The top 20 dancers will be short listed and asked to form groups of up to 5 members and prepare a special performance which will be judged by Makriss and Issa at Beats on the Beach. Five final winners will receive a cash prize of up to Dhs10,000 and get a chance to attend a special dance workshop weekend in Beirut with Makriss.
Adding to the excitement Live on the Corniche will be the hugely popular F1 FanZone™, an filled with attractions and entertainment for race fans and spectator.
A new addition to the Yasalam festival, the Urban Art Zone, will be delivering a fresh level of creativity to the Corniche activities. The public can watch art come to life as old shipping containers are transformed into live graffiti art, bringing the industrial heritage of Abu Dhabi into the creative world of Yasalam 2014.
The overall festival will kick off in the carnival-styled parade, Yasalam Opening Parade, with music and fancy dress costumes inspired by the big race and the worldwide host cities. The Yasalam parade will feature local school floats, a marching band and breath taking performers along the boardwalk of the Abu Dhabi Corniche.
