Michael Jackson Show Set for Dubai
Hi Jamie! Tell us about the show!
Michael Jackson The Immortal is a huge spectacle of a show. If you can only imagine Michael Jackson as a maverick in his field and one of the biggest entertainers, if not the biggest of all time, partnering with Cirque du Soleil, also a maverick in what they do, mashing those two together, that’s what Dubai is going to see. The show’s on its third year of touring.
Tell us about your work with Michael Jackson.
It was back in the day in the 1990s. I was a young dancer on the Dangerous tour in 1992. I was a huge fan and I worked with him on that tour for two years, it’s where I learned to do what I do for all of my other pop stars.
What was he like?
Michael was many things. He was number one professional, specific in terms of what he wanted and a perfectionist. He wanted it how he wanted it and how he saw it. He also didn’t believe in the illogical, which I take with me to this day. He believed anything was possible and I use that in all my shows. He was also quite a funny man, many people don’t know that. With the show, the audience is treated to all those characteristics that are Michael. The first time I ever went to Neverland was when I took my Cirque creative team there during the early part of this process. It was very different because Michael obviously wasn’t there but his energy could very much be felt. A lot of the imagery in the Immortal tour is based on Neverland.
