The Ivy Lounge
Back in the Nineties, The Ivy in London was brought to our attention thanks to the long line of celebs who poured through its doors. It had been famous before (Laurence Olivier, Marlene Dietrich and Noël Coward were among its clientele in the early days), and it rose to prominence once again. Local and international paps set up shop out front and many papers were sold thanks to shots captured of the courting (or arguing) A-list couples exiting each night.
Renowned social commentator AA Gill quipped in his weekly Sunday Times column that every face in there was famous and “the ones you don’t recognise are likely to be the movers and shakers, the fixers and dealers of the culture”. To this day it still draws in starlets in its theatreland location, but the big news is its overseas expansion. Opening in 2011, The Ivy in Dubai is best known as a restaurant, but in fact its lounge is set to be the talk of the town with the relaunch of its after-work happy hour featuring three selected drinks or a bottle of vino for just Dhs99! And who knows, you might even meet the odd celebrity in there too.
