It’s Lacroix, Sweetie!
When Christian Lacroix went bankrupt in 2009, the fashion world went into shock. For some, it signaled the death of couture. For others, the beginning of the end of fashion completely. But we all know you can’t keep a good fashion man down, and despite a failed attempt to relaunch his eponymous label in 2010, the flamboyant French designer is back – and this time, he’s hitting up the high street!
Debuting at Barcelona Fashion Week, Desigual by Monsieur Lacroix fizzes with the Frenchman’s trademark fabulosity, and finally allows for mere mortals to snap up his work without having to remortgage their house.
Collaborating with one of Spain’s most successful high street chains that’s well known for their kaleidoscopic prints, the pairing of fashion powers couldn’t be more perfect. “It was love at first sight,” gushed Lacroix, describing the moment he first glimpsed a girl clad in Desigual. “I could recognise in her a member of my own tribe. An explosion of colours and patchwork, a breath of fresh air, all multicoloured, scorching, revitalising, radiating Mediterranean colours and flavours and creeping into this global and colourless magma inhabited by zombies and clones.”
Crikey!? And it seems the team at Desigual are just as enamoured with their new fashion friend. “It is all about uniting creativities; brains and hearts working together” said a spokesperson. “It absolutely was love at first sight.”
The 30 piece collection, which comprises bold printed jackets, skirts, bags, leggings and sweaters – all infused with the designer’s unbridled decadence – will arrive in Dubai later this year, with a larger collection due for spring 2012.
