Long gone are the days of investing in a simple but sturdy black swimming costume. Today, swimwear is as much about fashion as the rest of your wardrobe. As seen on the catwalks of London Fashion Week last month where bright colours abounded, fashion experts predict an even stronger affinity for brightness and boldness across this year’s swimwear. Dubai beaches will once again be a buzz with happy sunbathers and the pool party season has begun!
Airy colour-clashing is making waves this season and it’s time to embrace neons and acids – tropical fruit inspired colours with zingy pistachio, zesty lemon and a burst of blueberry will be hitting the beaches very soon. Break yourself in gently by trying pastel versions of these bolder statement colours first. Moontide’s latest collection (stocked exclusively by Bare Essentials swimwear boutique in Dubai) sees a mouthwatering myriad of fruit salad and creamy gelato colours incorporated across tribal, culturally-inspired prints. Asterix is a contemporary two print combo story – delicate and frivolous with an overall light feel. It combines this season's on-trend, hot tropical fruit colours with softer khakis and blacks themed with a reversible pant mixing the bold Aztec design with a more muted print. Aroha reflects traditional Moontide reversible styling with an added flash of contrast colour and the fabric and styles are suitable for the fuller figure with bikini-tankini and one piece swimsuits incorporating underwire and power mesh support.
If you’re a fan of playful, retro-style swimsuits that recall the glamour of Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor on the beach in the 1950s, these are making an even hotter comeback in 2012 than last year. Incredibly flattering to a feminine figure because they’re designed for gorgeous curves, they provide more coverage than your standard bikini or high-cut one-piece, which is sexy in that it leaves a little something to the imagination. High-waists, skirted bottoms, bustier tops and thick-strapped halters are reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe-era beach attire. Moontide’s collection has taken this popular theme and added pretty ruffles, classic polka dots and romantic prints.
If you’re not into the highly feminine girly look, then get technical and try out one of this season’s digitally-enhanced graphics making a debut. Moontide’s prism design is digitally printed on a specially developed fabric for high definition. It’s a stunning print which is art deco and glass inspired. The simple styling helps highlight the print, giving it a striking and unusual look and very chic.
Whatever your beach glam look is going to be this summer – retro revival, cutting edge futuristic or timeless classic – just make sure you inject a daring burst of colour to be on trend.
