Interview: Iman Pasha

Meet the personal shopper extraordinaire

Everyone can do with a little help in the wardrobe department. Whether it’s finding this season’s must have item or getting rid of a clanger, we all turn to our friends for advice. But there’s one lady in the Emirates who’s almost certainly going to give the best advice.

Last year Iman Pasha turned her lifelong love affair with fashion into a business – an eponymous fashion consultancy. Of the company’s ethos, Pasha says, “My services are aimed at helping people craft not only their wardrobe for specific events, seasons or holidays but also build their everyday, basic wardrobes so that they can feel special every day.”

With impeccable taste, honed by an eclectic life – born in the US, growing up in Pakistan and attending university in London – Pasha made ripples in London working in personal shopping and styling, acting as a consultant for aspiring fashion brands, styling for fashion editorials and working as a freelance journalist for various high end publications.

After completing a philosophy degree at King’s College and a masters in international journalism at City University, both in London, 28-year-old Iman entered the fashion industry. In November 2010 she co-hosted a trunk show with London fashion institution Browns, featuring acclaimed designer Erdem and accessories guru Zagliani. She also co-hosted an event with Diane Von Furstenburg’s London team to launch the label’s Spring/Summer 2011 Vintage Collection.

But it was in early 2011, having moved from London to Dubai, that Pasha began to make real waves in the fashion world, joining world-renowned fashion store, Boutique 1 as Head Stylist to the group, responsible for starting their private shopping department, and writing a monthly column for Harper’s Bazaar Arabia. Just a few months into her new life in Dubai, Pasha was also awarded the enviable accolade of becoming one of Harper’s Bazaar Arabia’s 100 Best Dressed.

Of her Pakistani heritage, Pasha said, “I think it has inspired my love of colour and accessorising.  I love fine jewellery and vintage pieces, drawing my inspiration from the exotic and sumptuous environment I grew up in.”

Not her first time working in the Middle East, Pasha’s name began to be big news back in March of this year when she co-hosted an event alongside Matches Fashion. Always on the cutting edge of style, for this event she brought some emerging fashion gems, including Jonathan Saunders, Mary Katrantzou, Holly Fulton and Roksanda Ilincic from London to Qatar for the launch of high-end fashion publication, HauteMuse. Around this time Pasha also styled The City star, Olivia Palermo.

Iman Pasha's top 5 places

1. Zuma
For a night out, you can’t beat it. The sushi is to-die-for, as is the ambience - the most hip place in Dubai.

2. Boutique 1
I know, I know, I’m biased! But if you do want all the best in design fashion, it is the go-to place in Dubai.

3. Andrew Martin and The Rug Company
I have been decorating my house and these two stores have almost single-handedly transformed my new place into a real haven of luxury.

4. Belle Femme
I like nothing better than heading to Belle Femme for a relaxing massage, Moroccan bath, or decadent facial.

5. Saladicious
Being in fashion, I like to keep in shape so that I do the stunning clothes justice. Saladicious’s healthy salads and other gourmet dishes are delicious and don’t make me pile on the kilos!
