UAE users reported that Instagram has started hiding likes from them.

Several users in the country claim that their ‘like’ counts have been removed. Disappointed?

The move made by the social media networking platform is an initiative to get users to not focus on how many likes a post receives, but rather focus on what is being posted. Sounds tricky…

The new update will come up with a pop-up message when you click on your post, saying: “only you can see the total number of people who liked your post”.

Instagram tweeted: “Starting today, we’re expanding our test of private like counts globally. If you’re in the test, you’ll no longer see the total number of likes and views on photos and videos posted to Feed unless they’re your own.”

Instagram initially tested the feature in a few countries, including Canada, Japan, Brazil, Ireland, Italy – and plan to do so in many more.

The following trial has only appeared in a few UAE users’ Instagram posts – others have not yet experienced the feature.
