An Expensive Cut of Steak
Nusret Gokce started out as a butcher when he was 16, and now aged 32 is the owner of six Nusr-Et steakhouses across Turkey, plus his latest opening at the Four Seasons Dubai. Since 2012, his investors are the same owners of neighbouring Coya, and La Petite Maison and Zuma in DIFC. With solid, utilitarian wooden tables and leather-backed chairs, Nusr-Et has a wonderful casual ‘market’ vibe, but don’t be fooled, the prices are sky-high. I thoroughly recommend ordering the beef carpaccio, rolled up at the table, followed by the ‘lokum’ or ‘spaghetti’ steak. Leave room for the pistachio baklava sandwiched with traditional Turkish vanilla ice cream from Gazantiep.

Hidden in a Cove
In keeping with its name, Cove Beach, a new sleek restaurant, lounge and bar sits sheltered in a cove to the side of Jumeirah Beach Hotel overlooking Burj Al Arab. Grab lunch or head down for sundowners while soaking up the rays with a gorgeous view. I love that the menu focuses on simple dishes – think char-grilled chicken and spinach and ricotta tortellini. Save room for the apple tatin.

The New Taste of Waldorf
Waldorf Astoria, synonymous with dishes like the Waldorf salad, eggs Benedict and red velvet cake has been on the hunt for the next #TasteofWaldorf dish, in the hope that it too will stand the test of time. Five emerging American chefs were dispatched to five Waldorf Astoria properties around the world to apprentice with master chefs, Pierre Gagnaire, Heinz Beck and Jeff Galvin included, to create the next iconic dish. The five-paired chefs then met in New York to prepare their dishes for a judging panel, with Heinz Beck and David Posey’s celery root ‘risotto’ declared the winner. The dish is now available at Waldorf Astoria hotels in Dubai and Ras Al Khaimah, along with a special overnight foodie package.
