The bold and the beautiful donned their most fabulous frocks to celebrate fashion's finest at the sixth annual Grazia Middle East Style Awards on 4 April Wednesday night. The stunning Madinat Jumeirah set the scene as the UAE's glitterati arrived in full force to attend the uber glam awards bash, which was hosted by British fashion designer Henry Holland and top model Poppy Delevigne.
The theme for the night was "white with a burst of colour" and from 7pm onwards invited guests began to trickle down the white carpet, stopping only to pose for snappers who were poised and at the ready to take pictures of the arrivals dressed in the most stunning gowns and funkiest dresses. Even the men in suits looked dapper, having made a huge effort to hit all the right style notes. The glamazon crowd enjoyed a pre-dinner drinks reception al fresco, where nominees mingled as they sipped their bubbles. But it wasn't long before the competitive nature of the evening became apparent and talk quickly moved from general fashion chit chat and onto more serious business - the awards ceremony itself!
Guests were ushered into the grand Johara Ballroom, where Grazia Middle East Editor Elaine Greenshields took to the stage at 9pm to welcome guests with a speech. The eagerly anticipated awards took place after the three course meal and there were plenty of nervous nominees in the ballroom - some even too anxious to finish off the delicious strawberry trio dessert!
Dedicated follower of fashion Henry, who was suffering from a sore throat and suspected tonsillitis, along with Louis Vuitton muse Poppy, dished out the awards once the plates had been cleared. The pair were thrilled to announce talented shoe designer Christian Louboutain as a winner, not once, but twice! He scooped two gongs - one for Best Shoe Designer in the Splurge category, as well as a second honour for his Outstanding Contribution to Fashion.
Other notable mentions on the night went to Lady Fozaza, who picked up the award for Best Local Designer, while Essa was announced as Best Regional Designer. Dipesh Depala's redvelvetnation.com took the honours for Best Style Blogger, while Best Fashion Personality went to Tala Samman of myfashdiary.com.
Meanwhile, Best Shopping Destination went to The Dubai Mall, and UAE newcomer my-wardrobe.com was crowned Best Online Retailer. Best Department Store Splurge/Steal went to Saks Fifth Avenue and Debenhams respectively.
With the serious business out of the way, the fashionistas celebrated well into the early hours. After dancing the night away, guests made their way home clutching their precious bags of swag, which included a copy of the latest issue of Grazia as well as a gift from Scholl to soothe aching feet!
The cream of style and fashion in the Middle East will most certainly agree that last night's awards ceremony was a roaring success!
