If you have billions in the bank and six children, the one word you should be shouting before ‘I do’ is ‘prenup!’ Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie swore they’d never get married, but seven years later they changed their minds, and now sources say they’ve been working on the mother of all prenups to protect themselves in case happily ever after doesn’t work out.
An insider told The National Enquirer, “They don’t want anything left to chance. They are straightening out all their financial arrangements before the big day so they can kiss at the altar knowing they’ve taken care of every eventuality. They will have every last penny accounted for. They are responsible parents and don’t want any confusion about what will happen should the marriage fall apart.”
A lawyer confirmed that they should, without a doubt, draw up the legal document. LA family law attorney Goldie Schon told Celebuzz, “The chances of them not having a prenup is slim. The fact that they waited this long to tie the knot, you can’t imagine that with this type of wealth and this type of stature that they’re not going to protect themselves so that they don’t have a situation in the future.”
As for who gets what in the case of a divorce, Brad’s fortune has been estimated at $150 million (Dhs550m) and Ange’s at $120 million (Dhs440m) – almost Dhs1 billion combined! Goldie predicts they will split their fortunes with a “what’s yours is yours and what’s mine is mine” deal. She added, “These two particular people are extremely affluent in their own right when it comes to wealth, celebrity stature and being a public figure they are both pretty much of the same elite.” While money may not be too much of an issue, the big question is what would happen to their brood of children if the marriage crumbles?
While Shiloh, Knox and Vivienne are the pair’s biological children, Ange adopted Maddox, Zahara and Pax. Although Brad eventually adopted all three between 2006 and 2008, Ange adopted Maddox before she even met Brad, while she was with her ex-husband Billy Bob Thornton. Ange adopted Maddox as a single parent and didn’t give Billy Bob joint custody when they split, so there’s a risk that she could make similar demands if she and Brad decided to split.
There are reports that Ange could get the kids, and rumours they will share joint custody. Either way, our insider revealed, “They will ensure that [the children] won’t want for a single thing for the rest of their lives.” After all, it was the kids who inspired them to marry in the first place! Our source added, “Their children are becoming more knowledgeable of what mummys and daddys are supposed to be... The reason they are getting married is because of their children.”
