Inside Aysha Majid's Pretty Home
There is something undeniably stylish and girly about Aysha Majid’s apartment in Dubai Marina, much like the glamorous owner herself. The founder of Dubai’s lifestyle site Cherry Pick, has a penchant for colour and prints and has made some bold statements with brights in her light-filled home. There is an instant feeling of warmth, walking into the living room, thanks to sunshine yellow wallpaper with pretty pink blooms that perfectly complement the colourful chairs.
Aysha has lived in the stylish abode for the past year with her husband and dog Tyler and says she was drawn to the sought after complex because of its convenient location, homely environment and great amenties such as the pool, yoga room and gym.
She says her favourite room in the house is the living room thanks to its kitsch and colourful vibe and is a great place to entertain friends and family. “I love anything that has a history with a romantic or vintage feel, but I also like things that contrast.”
Aysha has decorated the apartment with eclectic purchases found on her travels around the globe and has given a vintage feel to furniture thanks to antique finds. “I always pick up lots of things on my travels, anything I can fit in my suitcase and more, but I am forever getting told off for this, “ she laughs.
“I bought some old door knobs from Chor Bazaar in Mumbai years ago and added these to the dressing table doors. I am not really into matchy-matchy clothes or furniture. I like to mix it up.”
The pretty patterned wallpaper was purchased online from the wallpaper website (www.wallpaperdirect.co.uk) and she admits to adding character with a stunning lamp was bought from the Marina Home store.
“I love this lamp because it reminds me of a movie floodlight or a vintage swivel lamp you might see in an old film, while someone’s being interrogated.”
Aysha says she has no plans to move from the luxurious apartment and admits that her star sign is Taurean so to her having a home is really important. “I’ve managed to make this feel like home, which is nice. I have my tomato plants on the balcony, some pretty vintage finds that remind me of London and my travels, so I am all good and will stay here for the long term.”
The apartment is also decorated with plenty of personal framed mementos. “I get so much pleasure from looking at photographs. I love the fact that they allow you to relive poignant memories or an intimate moment that you may otherwise have forgotten.
Aysha admits she loves to collect treasures such as a shell from the beach, a piece of old lace or an ornate chandelier. “So basically in about 50 years time I probably am going to be an old bag lady with a house full of junk,” she laughs.
