The four-day event took place from 18-22 August.
The purpose of this initiative was to create awareness on the IHG Green Engage, a sustainability program based on an online tool which measures the day-to-day environmental impact of the participating IHG hotels around the World.
The hotels have been implementing a rigorous environmental strategy to become Doha’s leading hotels in environmentally sound operations.
An indispensable part of this strategy has been to involve all employees and have them contribute to the hotels’ green actions.
"Caring for the environment goes hand in hand with our purpose of creating Great Hotels Guest Love. The cautious execution of our green policies ensures that every single member of our hotels knows about the effects of our eco-friendly policy and how to contribute to protecting the planet in their daily work" said Andreas Pfister, Area General Manager of IHG Qatar. "The process of environmental preservation and becoming 'green' hotels has to transpire from the inside and is primarily people driven".
IHG Qatar Green Week entailed a wide range of activities throughout the week among daily training sessions on environmental issues, Saflia Island volunteer beach cleaning, a ‘Green Menu Day’ and a staff recycled material art exhibition and contest.
Over the coming months, IHG Qatar will continue to work to extent the results of the IHG Green Engage. In addition to the technical improvements and ecofriendly systems that have already been introduced over the past few days, the hotels will look forward to further involve not only their staff members but also guests, to help preserve the planet.
