Idris Elba Launches Ebola Awareness Campaign
British actor Idris Elba launched a public awareness campaign on Wednesday to support those affected by Ebola in West Africa.
The Wire star, whose father is from Sierra Leone, teamed up with a number of international soccer players to raise awareness of the deadly disease, and recognise the health workers who are doing their part to fight the virus.
The Africa United campaign was launched at the official draw for the 2015 Orange Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea's capital Malabo.
Speaking at the event, Elba explained, "For me the battle against Ebola is a personal one... To see those amazing countries in West Africa where my father grew up and my parents married being ravaged by this disease is painful and horrific."
The campaign aims to broadcast vital information in French, English, Krio and other local languages in a bid to help stop the disease from spreading.
Sports stars involved in the drive include Yaya Toure, Carlton Cole, Patrick Vieira and Fabrice Muamba.
