Hugh Jackman Saves Daughter from Drowning
Hugh Jackman really is a superhero! Our favourite X-Man brought out his inner Wolverine over the weekend, rescuing his children from drowning at the beach.
The X-Men star was at Bondi Beach on Saturday when his two children - Oscar, 15, and Ava, 10 - became caught in the strong current and began to be dragged out to sea.
Hugh was reportedly having a laugh with former National Rugby League player and reality star Dan Conn and My Kitchen Rules star Lynzey Murphy at the time of the incident. Footage of the incident shows Conn running in to rescue Oscar, while Jackman is seen piggybacking his daughter to shore. After making sure his children were safe, Hugh was seen waving at others in the sea to try and get them to swim back to shore.
It was also initially reported the action man grabbed an unknown male and assisted him, but the guy, Peter Adam, told 9 News he was trying to help Hugh with his daughter.
"He wasn't rescuing me, I was assisting him to get his daughter up to the sandbar," Adam said. "He then grabbed my hand to get us up (and) then went to get his son."
The 47-year-old initially declined to comment on the incident, but his representative Michele Schweitzer has since released a statement to People, playing down the beach drama.
"Hugh and Oscar are 100 per cent fine," she states. "It looks a lot more dramatic than it actually was."
Meanwhile, rescuers with the North Bondi Surf Life Saving Club, who closed the beach to make an additional 43 rescues, are thanking the actor for his efforts.
"The beach had to be closed due to dangerous conditions, multiple rescues happening all at once and limited resources," they wrote on Instagram. "@thehughjackman was also spotted assisting with rescues! Thanks Hugh."
