Nude lipstick was a popular choice on the Oscars red carpet, and it’s a trend that people continue to embrace, for both big events and everyday looks. But how do you go about choosing a nude lipstick? Let us tell you how…
“The key thing to take into account when choosing the perfect nude shade is to not pick a shade too light or too dark for your skintone,” Denise Rabor, International Make-up Artist and Founder of WOW Beauty, told us. “If you pick a shade that’s too light, you will lose your lip definition and if you choose a shade too dark, you may look more fair or washed out.”
Denise advises avoiding beiges and picking a soft pinky nude if you have fair skin, as this will “stand out against your lips and skin and add some warmth”, while award winning make-up artist Stacey Whittaker recommends MAC Peachstock (Dhs109 available here, pictured below) and Kinda Sexy (dhs109 available here).
“For those with olive undertones there are more options available,” Denise continued. “They can wear both pink and beige nude tones, as well as nudes that are darker than their skin. Medium to dark skintones look great with nude shades lighter than their skin, which allow their lips to really stand out and complement their skin.”
When it comes to finishing off the look, Stacey explained that it’s all about what kind of event you’re wearing it to.
“It is important to also consider the finish of the nude lip you choose. Matte works best for a low maintenance look, simply apply in the morning and forget about it all day. For glossy finish shades, upkeep will be required so choose wisely!” she smiled.
