While we're used to beach hotels in Qatar, the latest development in the city will really get people talking.

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide has signed an agreement to manage a Westin-branded hotel in Doha, featuring a manmade beach, wave pool, a river and a waterfall, smack bang in the middle of the CBD, according to a report by Arabian Business.

The water-themed hotel, scheduled to open next year, is expected to have a river running through reception under a glass floor to reach a waterfall and wave pool at the back of the property.

The 372-room Westin Doha Hotel & Spa will sit on a landscaped area of 49,000 square metres and will also include a spa, three swimming pools and a choice of five restaurants and bars, the hotel group said in a statement.

Starwood already has three hotels in Doha – the funky W Doha, the Sheraton Doha and the relatively new St Regis Doha. Given the speed at which new hotels keep popping up in the city, offering a swathe of new restaurants, spas and other attractions, it will be interesting to see what the Westin Doha will bring to the market to entice Qatar foodies and staycationers.
