Hotel Review: The Standard Hotel & Spa Miami Beach
In the spirit of all things sun, sea and sand, this Biscayne Bay-facing location is all about the spa offering. Situated on the second and third floors above the lobby, guests have complimentary access to the hammam, sauna and steam room and the option to take an ice bath. Various types of mud are available for purchase to slather on outside and bake in the sun before hosing off in the outdoor baths.
With a pool that’s open 24 hours a day, the hotel is always alive but maintains a chilled vibe. Saunter through the lobby and past the library bar to grab an iced coffee or ice cream from the tuck shop before hitting the sunbathing deck. It’s situated beside The Lido Bayside Grill where some of the coolest people from the EDM music scene can be seen enjoying happy hour and raw pad Thai from a menu of healthy bites. While rival hotels ban visitors from taking a swim in the Bay, The Standard encourages plunging into the water where flashy yachts and jet skis ride by.
The outdoor area also provides plenty of Instagram-worthy moments. The yellow theme throughout - from the sun lounger umbrellas to the pool towels- is guaranteed to brighten up your day. The hotel even manages to make politics fun: guests can “ring their rep” from the sunshine-colored phone booth that provides a direct line to Congress.
This quirky hotline extends right through to the rooms, which are positioned on either end of the grassy lawns where guests gather around the fire pit and lounge in hammocks, or on a balcony overlooking the water.
Ahlan! checked into a suite with an outdoor bath (don’t worry there’s a shower indoors too where you’ll be the only one looking at you thanks to an across the wall mirror instead of regular tiles) concealed by drawn white curtains. Our walk-in closet was just big enough to hang clothes and keep a minibar stashed with all the snacks and beverages we needed.
We were kitted out with an Ultimate Ears bluetooth operated speaker to blast our favorite tunes while kicking back with a stack of magazines on the couch. Thankfully, free earplugs are provided too. There’s the option to separate the bedroom and living area with curtains in case you and your companion have different ideas. Turns out The Standard Miami is not so standard after all.
