Hotel review: Greenwich Hotel, New York City
Actor Robert De Niro is one of four owners and despite its numerous star guests, staff here treat each and every person that comes through their Tribeca neighborhood doors with equal attention.
The lobby lounge is a hangout that’s open to everyone but staying guests have access to the cosy drawing room, complete with a roaring fireplace and books thoughtfully placed around to give it that home library vibe. Attached is a courtyard that’s popular with diners in the summer.
Our second-floor studio suite overlooked the closed-in brick space via a private balcony that provides ample people-watching opportunities just by swinging open the double doors. Whether you are in a standard room or a penthouse suite, every room has unique furnishings.
The 88-room Greenwich Hotel has a free minibar in each accommodation for soft drinks and snacks and although it contains the Locanda Verde restaurant and room service is available, there’s also a basket of complimentary sweet and savory retro snacks refilled daily.
On the lower floor next to the gym is the Shibui Spa, which is home to a heated indoor Olympic pool dubbed one of the best in the world, and made from 250-year-old pine and bamboo retrieved from the structure of a farmhouse in Kyoto. Even if you opt not to book a treatment, every guest can snack on nuts and dried fruit while sipping on herbal tea provided in the dimly-lit general area. It’s easy to forget you’re in the Big Apple until you emerge feeling zen.
For a more personal bathing experience, everything you need to run a luxurious bath is ready, including relaxing salts, lavender soap, and one of the deepest tubs you’ve ever seen, let alone in a hotel. Best of all you don’t have to spend much time preparing it — a sign warns ou that it fills up in a speedy 60 seconds. Another bonus here are the sweet smelling shampoos, conditioners and shower gels that come in a rare full size.
Check into this property located by the Hudson River and surrounded by celebrity homes, for one of the best ways to truly ‘check out’ of the hustle and bustle of the buzzing city.
