The UAE has no shortage of steakhouses or churrascarias. And we’re not complaining. The latest addition to the culinary landscape is Fogo de Chão, hidden in DIFC’s Central Park Towers (we literally got lost looking for it). Not that that’s a bad thing – sometimes the best things in life are difficult to find (too deep for a restaurant review?).
The opening marks Fogo’s second location in the Middle East (there is one in Saudi), and its 51st location globally. Fogo de Chão, which began in Brazil, has locations around the world including São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, New York City, Beverly Hills, Miami and Mexico City, to name just a few.
On arrival we’re impressed with the size of the venue, which includes inside and outside seating, plus a spacious outdoor lounge. Best of all, the venue has epic views of the Burj Khalifa, and we even manage to catch the light show.
Food-wise, you can expect Fogo’s signature selection of premium cuts of meat, a gourmet market table of fresh seasonal salads, fruits and vegetables, and an extensive list of mixed drinks and an award-winning grape list assembled by Fogo’s expert sommeliers.
In true churrascaria style, a double-sided card on the table is used to indicate whether or not they should keep serving you. Green means ‘I want more’ and red means ‘stop’. After 10 minutes we give up and turn to red. Another 30 minutes later, we’re back on green. This goes on for most of the night. Prepared authentically, every single cut is slowly cooked to tender perfection. In fact, it’s the kind of place you take a vegetarian, if you really dislike them...
