The three founders of My Ex Wardrobe wanted to make it easy for people in the UAE to ‘recycle’ clothes and accessories they no longer wanted, while promoting an eco-friendly way to stay fashionable and save cash at the same time. The concept allows people to turn their unwanted items into cash through monthly pop-up shop events held at various locations in Dubai. In 2013, Sian, Teagan and Bekky embarked on a crowdfunding campaign with Eureeca.com, which helps small businesses seek investment in exchange for equity. This enabled them to expand the company and hire its very first member of staff.
Although the women are devoted to the business, each of them has an extremely busy schedule. Sian officially gave up her job in hospitality design at the end of 2012 to focus on My Ex Wardrobe full-time, but she has since busied herself with freelance projects. Teagan has been juggling three jobs for a while. She recently giving up her position as a swimming teacher, which she’d held for five years, but soon filled the gap by becoming the general manager of E-Walls Studio, which creates bespoke wall art for both businesses and homes. She also owns her own accessories firm, Teagan Jewellery. Bekky qualified to represent Great Britain in the ITU Aquathlon World Championships last year, and the super-fit mum-of-two spends every spare minute training. One thing’s for sure – this bunch of go-getters are likely to be ‘hot’ for some time to come.
