As head of internal communications at Masdar, Aida is naturally good at speech giving and public speaking, although her true interest lies in humanitarian issues. “I’m a major humanitarian and I focus a lot of my energies on human rights for women and children.”

Aida actively works towards shifting people’s perceptions that “Emiratis are lazy and women just sit around and drink coffee, chat on the phone and do their nails. I worked hard in my field to show that I was a young female Emirati who is proud to wear her Abaya and Sheila and is still able to speak her mind confidently. I wanted to silence those who had the wrong idea about us.”

And indeed Aida has done well to prove her point and is well known in the field in both print and television, for voicing her opinions. “I’ve always been a progressive thinker and I like to ask lots of questions. Cultural norms state that a girl should not be verbal – but I’m the total opposite. If I don’t like something, I’m not afraid to speak my mind.”
