At just 24, Abdulla has big dreams. “I want to be the first Arab director to receive an Oscar in 2012,” he says candidly. The Fujairah-born film director recently got back from Paris where he’s been promoting the world’s most expensive short-film, The Philiospher, featuring Hollywood actor Jean Reno.

“Next I’ll be working on my first feature film and I have so much more I want to do. There’s this misconception that all we have is oil drills in our backyard and nothing else in UAE, so we need to increase cultural awareness in the world, and that’s something I’m trying to do with film.”

Abdulla is extremely proud of the region and loves the mix of races, religions and nationalities all living together in harmony. “It’s a true blessing. Dubai is heaven on earth,” says the man who admits his perfect day in the UAE is to wake up and have a traditional Emirati breakfast with his family, then go out to sea and sail for the whole day.

The self proclaimed philosopher describes himself as driven, committed and determined and says he’s eternally grateful for everything he’s been given, adding, “No matter how much people love you, you will always have just one set of parents. Treasure that.”
