The UAE is feeling the force of Cyclone Ashobaa!
Abu Dhabi cops have been drafted into Fujairah as reports come in of waterlogging along the emirate’s corniche and in parts of Sharjah, where police warned residents to be careful when heading for Fujairah and Sava Street due to the rising waters by Khor Al Kalba.
Choppy seas could also spell trouble, with some pretty big waves expected to crash onto the Emirates’ eastern shores.
The UAE’s National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS) said yesterday that tropical storm Ashobaa was centred 220km off the Omani coast, with a surface wind speed of 62km to 82km per hour.
Satellite pics and regional weather reports showed the storm is still moving west, NCMS noted, moving closer inland and bringing with it strong winds and rain.
Early today, The Directorate-General of Oman Municipality warned against driving through the country’s wadis and low-lying areas, also urging fisherman to remain on dry land.
